I’m thrilled to announce the scholarship winners below.
I spent many days reading through the essays and watching the videos, every word important. To say the least, I’m humbled by the everyday heroes I learn about.
Go Sugar Free exists to make it easier for adults to feel exceptional in their skin. Whether by alleviating issues that can be seen on the outside or assuaging ones that can only be known from the inside, it has the potential to transform.
Here are winners of the Summer 2017 Go Sugar Free Scholarships:
Emily, Amy, Ashley, and Jean

Each recipient wrote in great detail about why they wanted to take Go Sugar Free. I’ll share just small portions that stuck with me from each essay.
“I’ve come to learn that happiness comes thoroughly and completely from within oneself and my happiness has been lost for some time beneath a very large stack of boston crème donuts.
“…I turn to sweets to meet the needs of my every emotion – happy, sad, bored, and frustrated. I literally feel the tension in my shoulders begin to leave with each bite. My breathing steadies and ultimately my whole body begins to relax. My mind stops racing.
“But you know what else happens? Hours and days later I feel anxious, sad, and insecure…
“I need to do this for my kids. They are still young – 1.5 & 3.5 yrs old – and I have time to become the kind of mom I want them to remember me as…”
“…I understand the magnitude of taking on a challenge like this and am familiar with some of the obstacles I will face. I have several friends who have taken this course and I have seen the long lasting changes they have made in their lives and know this program can help me. It’s time and I am ready to conquer sugar and find the freedom I know is possible. I know how important my health is and getting off sugar for good will not only benefit me but my family as well.
“I am a busy stay at home mother of two young daughters and a loving wife to my sweet husband. He is a wonderful father and great supporter of the change I want to make. We are a single-income family and my husband is a student who works long hours to support us. I want to be a good role model for my girls and I know this program is what I am looking for. Right now, I want to break free from my sugar addiction once and for all and I am ready to do what it takes to accomplish this goal and be part of the Go Sugar Free community…”
“My name is Ashley and I am 23 years old…
“In January, my 12 year old sister got diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdosacroma…I quit my job to help bring her to treatments and appointments and I told myself I will do whatever it takes to get her into remission and to stay there. During the first week or so I was super into researching how to go sugar free, what it means for your body, how your life changes, how sugar effects cancer etc. As life got crazy and unpredictable side effects came up, I lost sight of my goal.
“My sister’s treatment is coming to an end and I am determined to go back to my goal of doing whatever it takes to keep the cancer away…
“In addition to my sisters health, I also want to make this change for myself. Like I said, I was a former athlete and fitness was a huge priority for me. Since my sister has gotten sick, we have spent countless days sitting in hospital rooms for hours on end eating whatever is easy and quick, often pizza and fast food and I can really see and feel the effects it is having on me. I want to Go Sugar Free to feel happy and healthy in my own skin. These are all reasons why I am a good candidate for the Go Sugar Free Summer 2017 scholarship!”
“My name is Jean Eldridge. I am 71 years old, today ‘woohoo’! An older lady I know, but handling the stress of her own ailments and now my husband has had two strokes and is battling Alzheimer’s, he just turned 70…today’s new 50 right!…
“I really need this program to get my life in control and in order to be able to care for my husband at home and my two beautiful grandchildren…
“I would love to be able to participate in your program, feel good again and care for and enjoy my family. …this getting older has not been all it’s cracked up to be. Lol. Maybe we can make it better. Thanks for considering me.”
Thank you to everyone who entered. There were so many deserving entries, and I was grateful to consider every single one.
Emily, Amy, Ashley, and Jean, welcome to Go Sugar Free. We’re thrilled to have you.
